Understanding the Metrics

Our mission is to promote High School Boys Basketball by providing a rankings system that is math-based, and includes every team. These rankings are intended to supplement the current BC Basketball Top 10 rankings, and be a tool for coaches and rankings-makers to assess teams.

RPI

RPI is determined using the winning percentages of the team and it’s opponents. It does not use margin of victory (how much a game is won/lost by). It is calculated by

An RPI of 0.5 is average, while an RPI of 0.6 or higher is a high-level team.

SRS

SRS is determined only using each team’s average point differential (margin of victory) and those of the teams it has played. It does not consider wins and losses, so a loss by 1 point may be considered similarly to a win by 1 point.
This metric is recommended as the most accurate of the metrics we use to predict team strength.
Each teams rating is calculated by it’s point differential. We then find SRS:

This ranking system is predictive so we can use SRS to predict future results. We can also determine strength of schedule by comparing a teams SRS to their point differential. That is, the difficulty of their schedule based on the teams they’ve played.

ELO

ELO is a commonly-used metric to rank teams in chess. Teams start with a ranking value of 1500, and gain or lose points depending on wins and losses. Like RPI, the margin of victory is not considered here. The amount of points the team gains depends on the ELO value of the other team, and how many games the team has played. Adjustments have been made to the original metrics so that teams that have played a different number of games can now be compared fairly. However, this required a minimum of 10 games from a team to be fairly ranked. (The other metrics only require 4 games for a team to be ranked.)
We can also compare ELO rankings to predict the chance of winning a future game.

A team with at least 10 games and an ELO of 1500 is considered an average team, while an ELO of 2100 indicates a high-level team.

Ranking Tables

This website contains 3 different ranking systems: RPI, SRS, and ELO (combined only, new for 2026). You can also view teams grouped by zone in the Zone Rankings tab, or sorted alphabetically by name , which can be done by clicking the team hyperlink at the top of any ranking table.
Rankings are done by season, and can be combined or tiered.

We recommend using combined rankings for the most accurate metrics.
Each table contains some additional data:

Team Pages

Each team has it’s own page for the year. You can find a team page by clicking on Team Search and searching for your team, or clicking on the team’s name in any rankings table. (On a rankings table, you can use Ctrl-F to search up your team quickly as well.)
Each team page contains:
